Here in New Mexico we get thunderstorms. However, this time of year they are often dry thunderstorms with just a lot of wind. When the wind comes from the South it can bring a lot of dust from the desert areas South of Albuquerque.
Betty and I were in our living room and we looked up and wondered, "Where is our mountain?"
That is a solid wall of dust that is obscuring our mountain view. As I post this, the wind has passed and we have our mountain view back.
On Monday evening we went to a Reds baseball game - played the Colorado Rockies - with our friends Bob and Molly. It was a beautiful evening and the Reds won, 3 - 0.
Today, Tuesday, we're heading home. It's been a great trip with great visits with our son, Chris, and our friends, Bob and Molly. However, it will be good to get home - we miss Sugar and Morgunn.
Yesterday morning, Sunday, we went to church with our friends, Bob and Molly to their church, the Crossing. It's a nice group of people and their young pastor gave a good teaching sermon on the Messengers - God's prophets.
After lunch we took their Beagle, Jingles, for a walk to and from East Fork Lake which is only 10 minutes from where they live. It was a beautiful afternoon and, for Ohio, the humidity was relatively low which is very nice this time of year - a great way to spend an Ohio afternoon.
Even better we had metts and bratts for dinner - Cincinnati is a German heritage town - yummmm!
Children are definitely gifts from God. Grandchildren are even greater gifts from God.
Our little gift, our first granddaughter Juliet, graduated from pre-school. She'll start kindergarten in the fall.
Well done Juliet. We love you.

Our friends, Bob and Molly, live in Batavia, Ohio which is a rural suburb of Cincinnati. This morning, Saturday, Bob and I went over to the Clermont County Airport - a small plane airport. They have a museum called the Warbirds Museum which houses planes from World War II.
Almost all of the volunteers were World War II or Korean War veterans - many of whom flew the airplanes we saw. What is unique about this plane museum is their goal is for all of their planes to be restored to flying condition - not just museum display condition.
They have four men on staff who do a lot of the restoration work and others who volunteer their time. They recently flew their B-25 for a Memorial Day show in the area. We had a great time.
Here's a P-40 Warhawk that is currently being restored.
This is a Stearman Bi-Plane that was used for training pilots during the war. It and the rest of the planes below are all in flying condition.
This is a P-51D fighter plane. This type of plane was used to accompany the B-17 bombers on their runs deep into Germany. If you're familiar at all with the Tuskegee Airmen, this is the type of plane they flew.
This is my friend Bob standing at the nose of a B-25 bomber. This is the type of bomber that was used in North Africa and even more so in the Pacific theater. It was the bomber that Jimmy Doolittle used to take off from an aircraft carrier and bomb Japan about six months after Pearl Harbor. There was very little military value to their raid, but it was a tremendous morale boost to the US population as it was the first allied victory of the war.
This beast is the Grumman TBF Avenger. It was a Navy aircraft, taking off from aircraft carriers, to drop torpedoes against Japanese warships. It was one of the first aircraft to have foldable wings to enable more planes to be stored on the aircraft carrier.
In the afternoon we went to a local Cincinnati institution - Graeter's Ice Cream - some of the best ice cream you will eat. We met Bob and Molly's children, Jeff and Emily, and their children there. It was fun and loud.

We're in Cincinnati visiting with our good friends Bob and Molly. Yesterday, Friday, we drove down to the Over the Rhine section of downtown. Back in the early part of the 20th century, there was a canal that went through the middle of Cincinnati. The far side of the canal was settled mostly by Germans and the are became known as Over the Rhine.j
Today that canal is now a main street and Over the Rhine is pretty run down - however there have been some significant improvements since we left. One of the neat attractions in Over the Rhine is Findlay Market. It's a permanent selection of great vendors serving meats, seafood, cheeses, pasta dishes, candies, and on and on.
So, we went down to have lunch at the pasta place and it was a lot of fun.
One of the neat things about visiting in Ohio is seeing so much green and RAIN! We had a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon and had as much rain in one hour as we have had in New Mexico in the last 8 months.
However, I miss our low New Mexico humidity.
