Use Your Head

riders4helmetsMost of you know Betty’s story of her riding accident in 2007.  We’re grateful she wasn’t permanently injured, but we learned our lesson.  We ride with helmets now and will not let anyone ride our horses unless they have a helmet on.

Even top riders can have an accident through no fault of their own or the horse.  Check out this video of a top Olympian dressage rider and how her one-time decision not to wear a helmet on a safe horse changed her life.

There’s also a great site for more information on the importance of wearing a helmet when you ride – Riders4Helmets:

Thanks to our East Mountain blogging friend Lisa for bringing this video and web site to our attention.

And, I might second the motion for bicycle riders like myself..I have cracked two helmets in falls..cannot imagine if I had not had them on..

Couldn't agree more - helmets, every time, no exceptions.

I'm a "converted" helmet wearer, didn't until I bought Rosie 2 summers ago. Now every time, I ride no matter where, or for how long!

It's true what she said- it doesn't have to be a bad horse. They can just take a fall.

Even working around horses, one should wear a helmet. A horse can kick out or even just knocking heads can be bad news.

It's kind of like seat belts in a car, isn't it?

Note to self- I MUST wear mine ALL THE TIME!!

A disturbing but timely video Dan which was a little too much for me to watch. The effects are devastating and living in a cycling city, I think all my fellow cyclists should wear helmets too.
