Things Are Better

This is a picture of the Bosque fire from last night just as we were going to bed.

This morning, the reports are that somewhere up to 200 acres had burned. The fire on the West side of the river, our side, is mostly contained. The fire on the East side is still a concern, but the fire spots are mostly small.

Fortunately, the wind didn't pick up last night as they were forecasted to do.

We contacted two of our friends yesterday who live close to the fire and have horses and told them they could bring them up to our lot if needed, but it wasn't necessary.

There is some smoke in the air this morning - you can taste and smell it more than you can see it. It makes the back of your throat dry and scratchy. We were going to work with the horses this morning, but we have decided not to because of the smoke. Neither they nor we need to exert ourselves in the heat with the smoky air.

No structures were burned and no injuries were reported so we were blessed. If the winds had been stronger and in a different direction it could have been a lot worse.

I bless those men and women who run towards the fire to protect others. They deserve a special place in heaven.
