Balloons and Animals
Today we watched a great show of balloons as they marched up the Rio Grande valley in front of our house.
Later in the morning we all went to the Rio Grande Zoo for a picnic lunch and to hobnob with the animals.
Another good day.

Balloons, Day at the Park, Library and Pizza
Today, Monday, was a full day. First, we watched the balloons from the Balloon Fiesta.
Then we played at the park here in Corrales.
The Corrales Library is in the same area as the park, so we went into the library.
One of it's unique features is it has a Koi pond in the lobby.
Just across Corrales Road from the library and the park is Village Pizza which has a great pizza buffet for lunch.

Return to the Pumpkin Patch
This morning the granddaughters said they wanted to "go back to the corn" which meant a return to the Galloping Grace Youth Ranch Pumpkin Patch.
Wade Daniel and I did the noble thing and took the girls to the Pumpkin Patch while Betty and Marie went to the Balloon Fiesta craft fair to spend our money.
The first stop was the corn bin which included the ritual burying in the corn. No one else was doing it until Wade Daniel started with Juliet. Then every kid in the corn bin had to be buried in corn.
The girls also did the duck races, checked out the animals, watched the mini-goats get loose and caught and really enjoyed the pipe slide.
We finished with snow cones and the girls had to show off their red tongues from their strawberry snow cones.
A fun morning for us and the ladies didn't spend us out of house and home. Not bad at all.

They Call the Wind Mariah
Here in New Mexico we're used to wind. However, October is supposed to be our quiet month and that's one of the reasons the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is scheduled for the first full week in October.
Last night, the weather forecast was for early morning canyon winds to be between 10 - 20 mph. If the winds had been around 10 mph the balloons would have flown this morning. So we took the risk and got our tickets and went down to the balloon park early this morning.
Sad to say the winds were blowing closer to the 20 mph mark and the balloon ascension for the first morning was canceled just about the time we arrived. So, we walked around a bit. We bought a few souvenirs. The kids played on some fun jumps. The most fun they had was we bought a couple of bubble guns for the girls and Juliet played with hers while we were there.
The forecast for tomorrow (Sunday) morning is for even more wind, so it's probably another no go. So, we'll give it another go later in the week when the mass ascensions resume.

Fun at the Pumpkin Patch
The two greatest places to go during the month of October in Albuquerque are the Balloon Fiesta and the Galloping Grace Youth Ranch Pumpkin Patch.
We hope to go to the Balloon Fiesta tomorrow morning if the winds cooperate and we went to the Pumpkin Patch today.
The Patch is better than ever. Max and Michelle and all the volunteers have done a great job creating a new and bigger experience than ever before. If you haven't gone yet, you definitely don't want to miss it - especially if you have kids.

Bath Time for Hawks
We're still working hard to get ready for our kids and grandkids who are coming tomorrow for the Balloon Fiesta - Yay!
But, that means we haven't had the time to do our trip recap. It may really be late - or even not at all - and that's OK.
So, back to regular posts.
We have a bird bath in our courtyard. We have seen plenty of birds drinking and bathing in it - doves, quail, sparrows, finches, pigeons, curve-billed thrush, etc.
This morning we looked out and saw a hawk doing his/her daily wash up in our bath.

Oops!
I said that Betty and I would do a trip recap on Sunday and we forgot. We will get around to it as soon as possible. Right now we're trying to get our house in order for our kids and grandkids who are coming Thursday for the Balloon Fiesta.
